Art and Stories from the World’s Refugee Camps* is a global narrative: the project, based on research conducted between 2022 and 2024 in eighteen of the world’s largest refugee camps, presents 284 artworks and testimonies from 264 artists who currently live in camps or have experienced displacement. Inspired by Edward Said’s writings on exile, it offers a powerful space for artistic and narrative expression in one of the world’s most challenging contexts. The project explores the global refugee crisis, with UNHCR reporting 120 million displaced people as of May 2024, including 6.6 million living in camps. By sharing personal stories and visual works, Out of Place gives voice to migration experiences while emphasizing each artist’s unique perspective.
